Baccarat originated in Italy but gained massive popularity in France as the ultimate game of chance where flexible betting options allow a player to win big rewards. During the game you have the option to bet on either the "Player," the "Banker" or on the possibility of a "Tie" between the two.
In reality the terms "Player" and "Banker" do not refer specifically to the house or actual player allowing you to profit from the cards of either. The other option is of course the "Tie" where both the Player and Dealer have the same score. The system of scoring used is simple and easy to understand making the game exciting and good to both watch and play. The winning hand in a game is the one with the highest score (9 is the highest possible combination of cards). Look at the table below for a guide to scoring and card ranking.
A hand is calculated by adding the value of the cards dealt as below:
Cards 2-9: face value
Face cards (J, Q, K): 0
Aces: 1 point
All hands worth more than 10 are subject to modulo (remainder) of 10. For example a hand of 5 + A = 6 but a hand of 4 + 6 = 0 (modulo 10). This is the lowest hand possible and gives the game its name: Baccarat. All hands will automatically be scored in-play as each card is dealt making it easy to follow the action. Practise playing and the scoring quickly becomes second nature.
All winning hands pay out at 2:1 and a bet on a Tie will reap odds of 8:1.
All winning hands pay out at 2:1 and a bet on a Tie will reap odds of 8:1. Because of the big element of chance in Baccarat there is a particularly low House advantage which has helped to make Baccarat even more popular with gamers.
